Trip World

Review
Also known as
トリップワールド

Control Yacopu, a shapeshifting hero, to recover the stolen Maita Flower and restore peace across five platforming stages.

Trip World was released for the Game Boy in Japan on November 27, 1992, and in Europe in 1993. The earliest worldwide commercial release for this exact Game Boy version is 1992, but the legacy year of 1992 is correct for Japan. However, the original game was also first released on Game Boy in 1992, so original_release_year is 1992. The legacy year 1992 is accurate for the Game Boy version.

About Trip World

Trip World is a side-scrolling platformer where the player guides the young Shabubu Yacopu through five distinct stages. The adventure begins after the theft of the Maita Flower, a source of peace for Trip World, which throws the land into disorder. Yacopu's mission is to recover this flower from the thief he will eventually confront.

The gameplay centers on Yacopu's ability to shapeshift, primarily between his normal, flying, and fish forms. Each form serves a specific purpose: the normal form allows for basic movement and kicking attacks, the flying form grants access to otherwise unreachable areas, and the fish form is designed for underwater navigation. Enemy interaction is notable, as many foes do not cause damage on contact but instead push the character, though some will attack if provoked or from the outset.

Throughout the stages, which include environments like a jungle, ocean, and castle beneath a mountain, Yacopu can collect temporary power-ups. These grant abilities such as firing seeds to stun enemies, transforming into a bouncing ball, or attacking with an elongated tail. Every stage concludes with a boss encounter, building toward the final confrontation to restore peace.
