Possess enemies across six stages to rescue a hostage and avenge your murder.

Avenging Spirit (Phantasm) was originally released in arcades in 1991 by Jaleco. The Game Boy version was released in 1992.

About Avenging Spirit

Avenging Spirit is a side-scrolling action game where the player controls a ghost seeking vengeance. The narrative setup involves a scientist who revives the protagonist's spirit to rescue his kidnapped daughter, leveraging research on ghost energy as a bargaining chip.

Gameplay revolves around the ability to possess various enemies, with twenty different host bodies available. Each possessed enemy grants access to its unique weapons and abilities, which are necessary to progress. The player's health is tied to a ghost energy meter that depletes when not inhabiting a host.

The adventure unfolds across six distinct stages, including urban environments, industrial areas, and the criminal gang's headquarters. The story concludes with one of two possible endings.
