pop'n music GB

Review
Also known as
ポップン ミュージック GB

A rhythm game where you tap buttons in sync with music to fill a groove meter and unlock 25 tracks.

pop'n music GB was released for Game Boy Color in Japan in 2000; it is a spin-off of the arcade pop'n music series, not a port of a prior game, so its original release year is also 2000.

About pop'n music GB

pop'n music GB adapts the arcade rhythm series for handheld play. Its track list contains twenty five songs, with ten composed specifically for this release and fifteen arrangements from earlier entries.

Gameplay involves matching button presses to musical notes that move toward the screen's bottom. A groove meter reflects performance, rising with accurate input and falling with mistakes. Advancing to subsequent songs requires maintaining a sufficiently high meter by the current song's conclusion.

The control scheme is simplified from nine to five buttons to suit the Game Boy. Players can engage in a solo Original mode or compete against another in a two player Versus mode.
