About Dragon Dance
Dragon Dance is a Game Boy Color title that adapts the brick-breaking genre, where a player-controlled dragon serves as the paddle to deflect a ball. The core progression involves clearing one hundred stages, with a boss encounter appearing every tenth level. A time constraint on each stage encourages a brisk pace, making the overall experience challenging.
Gameplay systems introduce several variables. The dragon itself can be harmed, shrinking with each ball lost until the game ends. Players can influence the ball's speed, which can be increased deliberately but only reduced through specific power-ups or by losing a life. These collectible enhancements also grant extra time or quicken the dragon's lateral movement.
Further strategic depth comes from a special ability system. By destroying bricks, a meter fills, allowing the dragon to temporarily transform. These alternate forms provide unique powers such as stopping the clock, firing brick-destroying projectiles, creating defensive barriers, or altering the ball's trajectory mid-flight. Additionally, random interventions by dragon gods can trigger events like earthquakes or health restoration.
A separate competitive mode is available for two players via link cable. In this versus format, participants select a level and race to clear their brick field. The player who has cleared fewer bricks in a five-second interval is penalized with an extra row of bricks, and the first to clear their entire screen wins.
