About Mother 3

Mother 3 is a top-down role-playing game set on the Nowhere Islands. The story follows Lucas, a boy whose peaceful home in Tazmily Village is disrupted by the invasive Pigmask Army, which seeks to transform the land through a mix of overt force and subtler influence.

Gameplay involves navigating the islands with a party, interacting with characters to advance the narrative. A dash function increases travel speed and can be used to push aside weaker foes or certain objects. Combat uses a turn-based system where characters can attack, employ special psychic or other abilities, use items, or attempt to flee. A unique musical combo system allows players to inflict extra damage by tapping in rhythm with the battle music.

The game features a fair approach to character survivability through rolling HP meters, where health drains gradually after an attack, giving players a chance to recover or end the fight. Victory in battles grants experience to strengthen the party and later provides currency called DP for purchasing equipment and items. Save points are represented by frogs, which also later function as banking machines. If the entire party is defeated, players resume from their last save.
