About Mazes of Fate

Mazes of Fate is structured around a central quest to retrieve a stolen magical artifact, the only means to prevent humanity's replacement by a new race as decreed by ancient gods. The player begins by defining a character's gender, class, and attributes, or selecting a pre-made alternative.

Gameplay is divided between two primary modes. An overhead perspective is used for navigating world and town maps, where party management, shopping, and receiving quests from NPCs occur. The core experience involves exploring numerous dungeons from a first-person perspective, engaging in real-time combat that pauses for menu navigation, and discovering various items and weapons.

The adventure includes recruiting additional party members, facing many monsters, and undertaking numerous quests. A later Nintendo DS release altered the presentation by implementing a 3D engine in place of the original pseudo-3D and introduced new dungeon maps and secret areas.
