About When Penguins Attack
When Penguins Attack was one of those games you'd find buried in a Flash portal around the holidays. It came out in 2002, a simple, single-screen shooter that fit right into that era of quick, browser-based fun. You didn't need an account or a download; you just clicked and played.
You control a lone elf in a sleigh, positioned at the bottom of the screen. Your job is to protect Santa, who's tied up at the top, from waves of penguins that march down from above. You move your cursor to aim and click to fire candy canes. The mechanics are straightforward: you shoot the penguins before they reach Santa, and you can collect falling presents for power-ups, like a temporary rapid-fire mode. The pacing starts slow but gets frantic as more enemies appear from both sides of the screen. It feels like a chaotic, lighthearted defense against a very silly threat.
