About War On The Block
War on the Block was one of those straightforward Flash games you'd find in the late 2000s. It didn't try to be more than it was, a simple browser game you could pick up for a few minutes between other tasks. The title screen and blocky graphics felt familiar, a clear homage to older arcade-style tank games.
You control a single green tank from a top-down view, maneuvering around a maze of destructible bricks and unbreakable steel walls. Your goal is to protect the eagle icon at the bottom of the screen while destroying all enemy tanks that appear from the top. You move with the arrow keys and fire with the spacebar, a control scheme that feels immediate. The moment-to-moment play involves careful positioning, using the environment for cover while you line up shots. Enemy tanks come in waves, and they get faster and more aggressive as you progress. The pacing is quick, and a single mistake can let a tank slip past your defenses to destroy your base. It feels tense and focused, a test of your reflexes and spatial awareness.
