About Spiffy Speud

Spiffy Speud was one of those games you'd find tucked away on a Flash portal in the early 2000s. It had that simple, almost crude visual style common to a lot of experiments from that era, built more for a quick browser break than anything else. The name itself was a bit of a puzzle, never quite explaining what a "Speud" was supposed to be.

You control a small, blocky character, moving left and right across the bottom of the screen. Your job is to catch items falling from above, while avoiding others that will cost you a life. The main objective is to survive as long as possible, building up a score before your three lives are gone. The mechanics are straightforward: you collect specific colored shapes for points, and you dodge the ones that are marked with a skull or an X. The pacing starts slow but quickly becomes frantic, with the falling speed increasing steadily. It feels like a race against your own reflexes, a test of simple focus that can be surprisingly tense.
