About Pandemic

Pandemic was one of those Flash games you'd find in the late 2000s, a time when simple browser games could eat up an afternoon. It captured a certain straightforward, grim fascination with its premise.

You control a virus, represented by a menu of traits you can purchase between turns. Each turn, you watch a world map as colored dots, representing infections, spread from country to country. Your main objective is to evolve the pathogen enough to infect and kill every person on the planet before a cure is developed. You spend points earned from new infections to buy symptoms like coughing or fever, which make the virus more contagious, or abilities like drug resistance. The pacing starts slow, almost tedious, as you wait for enough points to make meaningful changes. The difficulty comes from balancing your evolution; move too aggressively, and the world's research efforts accelerate, racing to stop you. It feels like a cold, calculated waiting game, watching your creation slowly choke the world.
