About Halloween Slacking
Halloween Slacking was one of those short, simple Flash games you'd find in the late 2000s. It fit right into that era of browser-based distractions, a small window of play you could open between other tasks. The premise was straightforward, a bit of office mischief wrapped in a Halloween theme.
You control Sarah, an office worker trying to secretly prepare for Halloween. The main objective is to complete a list of festive tasks, like carving a pumpkin or choosing a costume, before time runs out. Moment to moment, you click on items around her cubicle to make progress, but you have to watch for the boss. A notification pops up when he approaches, and you must quickly click a button to hide your activities and pretend to work. The pacing is tense in a silly way, a constant low-stakes scramble between productivity and preparation. It feels like a minor rebellion against the workday, condensed into a few minutes of clicking.
