About Gemcraft

Gemcraft was one of those games you'd find tucked away on a Flash gaming site in the late 2000s. It arrived quietly, a single entry in what would become a long series. You played as a wizard defending a series of isolated fields from waves of monsters, a straightforward premise that hid a surprising amount of depth.

You control the wizard's towers, placing gems into sockets to fire at the creeping swarms. The core activity is crafting: you start with basic gems and combine them to create more powerful ones with different effects. You might fuse a red gem for raw damage with a yellow one for a slowing effect, constantly tweaking your setup as the paths fill with tougher enemies. The main objective is simply to survive all the waves on each map, but managing your mana for building, upgrading, and casting special spells becomes a tense balancing act. The pace starts slow, letting you experiment, but the later levels demand careful planning and rapid combinations. It feels like solving a persistent, escalating puzzle with spells.
