This point-and-click adventure requires time-travel puzzle solving to stop a mutant tentacle's world conquest.

Maniac Mansion: Day of the Tentacle was originally released for MS-DOS in 1993 by LucasArts, making it the earliest commercial release on that platform and the original release year.

About Maniac Mansion: Day of the Tentacle

Day of the Tentacle is a point-and-click adventure game and a sequel to Maniac Mansion. Its plot begins when a mutated entity named Purple Tentacle, having gained intelligence and arms, plans world domination after exposure to contaminated water. To prevent this, three characters are sent back in time, but a malfunction scatters them across different centuries.

The player can control Bernard, Hoagie, and Laverne, switching between them to solve puzzles. Actions are performed using on-screen commands for interaction and conversation. A central mechanic involves manipulating history by sending objects between the three time periods where the game is set, as items can change over the centuries.

Objectives include reuniting the stranded characters and ultimately stopping the threat. The CD release features full voice acting for all dialogue. The puzzle design, relying on temporal cause and effect, can be considered challenging.
