About Indianapolis 500: The Simulation

Indianapolis 500: The Simulation recreates its namesake automobile race using 3D polygon graphics. The event features the full field of thirty three cars from the annual Memorial Day weekend race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Prior to the race, a qualifying session requires players to complete four laps, with the average time determining starting position. Race distance can be set to 10, 30, 60, or the full 200 laps. Shorter race modes simplify the experience by removing car damage and the full course yellow flag system, which can lead to frequent multi car collisions.

Vehicle setup is a key component, allowing for adjustments to wing down force, tire pressures, and turbo output. Turbo management involves a trade off, providing a power boost while increasing engine stress and fuel consumption. Another customization is wheel stagger, where larger right side wheels are used to handle the track's banked corners.
