Duck Tales: The Quest for Gold

Duck Tales: The Quest for Gold is a DOS title adapting the 1987 animated series. Its premise involves Scrooge McDuck accepting a thirty day challenge from Flintheart Glomgold to determine the world's richest duck. The player operates from Scrooge's office, which serves as a hub for managing wealth accumulation strategies.

Primary income is generated by selecting destinations from a world map, leading to one of four distinct expedition types. These include navigating a mountain with grappling hooks and caves, traversing a jungle using vines and animal platforms, exploring a cavern maze while evading a yeti, and photographing rare animals in a forest. Each expedition presents unique obstacles and characters, with Scrooge's nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie frequently serving as the active participants.

Travel to these locations is handled by Launchpad McQuack's airplane, a sequence that itself presents a challenging hazard. The flight is filled with obstacles like power lines, falling objects from balloons, and weather phenomena, with a crash costing two days for repairs. An island in the Indian Ocean can be visited to check the ongoing competition standings against Glomgold.

Beyond expeditions, players can search Scrooge's money bin for rare coins or engage with the stock market, though the latter requires initial capital. The game concludes after the thirty day period, with victory awarded to the character who has amassed the greater treasure total.
